for charles “buddy” bolden
(1877 – 1931)a kwansaba
king buddy rose from new orlean’s pelvicfloor, part real, part myth, playing in
perdido -- the dives & tonks. his rhythm
drive, the power of his tone took
second to the madness of his ragtime --
a manic gabriel who blew his horn
when the blues came home to roost.
