bat (3)

bat

the sun was set; the night came on apace,
and falling dews bewet around the place;
the bat takes airy rounds on leathern wings...
john gay

a freakish guardian of the night, frenzy feeding
on small flying vanities & inanities,
catching them on the wing after hearing echoes
bouncing off significant surfaces & others;
crunching carapace & exoskeleton alike
to get at the sweetmeats – the meaning in a world
where the articulation of lust is blindsided
by official mood swings that unbalance consciousness.
u are strong, able to regenerate, replenish
yr life force; able to discern yr bounty, alter
eccentric movement in spite of yr proclivity
to get scrambled, confused & fly blithely into things
like a devil bird caught up in happenstance's float.

  1. This looks to me like a moth. The two lines up top looks like antennas sticking out of it's head. The brown and olive dark colors reminds me of the colors of a moth. The round light figure behind it, reminds me even more of a moth because as we all know, moths are attracted to light and light bulbs.

  2. In the ink blog I can only see the bat in the back ground however I can see the bat begin cover and overwhelmed by something other then itself. So I disagree with the poem as saying the bat is going around as an evil creature killing others

  3. This makes me terrified of bats. Calling it a devil bird was really creative.

  4. In this ink blot, I see numerous bats. I see one large, black bat and smaller gray ones. With this poem, I infer that the bats are only doing the nocturnal things they normally do in order to survive. I also think that bats are misunderstood because of some people views of thinking they are "vampires" in disguise. Bats are normal creatures just like every other wild animal, yet unique in it's own way.

  5. to me it looked more like a moth than a bat and even after reading the poem it remained the same even though the poem describes what the picture is traing to show very well.

  7. In the image I see a large bat at the forfront with smaller images of bats flying around. The bat is hanging upside down symbolizing that it is at rest and peaceful. The poem depicts the bat as a cruel creature but i feel as if the bat is a victim of its own destiny, forced into the night to be viewed as a killer of other beings. I disagree, i precieve the bat as a beautiful being and a victim of its own circumstances

  8. In my opinion only the small images in the background resemble bats. The bigger image looks like a butterfly about to flap its wings. For what I have seen aboout bats, they are indefensive animals that almost seem unable to harm a fly despite the blood-sucking reputation they preceed.

  9. In the image, I can clearly see a grey bat in the background. The big black image resembles a bat`s wings,but I dont see the body of a bat. The poem describes the creature well, but I still don't see the big image resembling a bat.

  10. The picture in the poem looks like an evil butterfly, if butterflies could ever be harmful this picture would be a great illustration of one. This poem seems to be some what similar to human nature. What i thought about when reading this poem was the human nature of lust. How devouring.

  11. This image of the "Bat" looks really evil to me, but when I read the poem it just seems like the bat is just lusting for Food. The poem to me does not fit the image of the bat simply because of the colors. The bat in the image is zoomed in and has dark colors, while the poem on the oither hand has more light and understanding. The image is a complete contrast.

  12. The bat is an animal that is aware of its surrounding. It can hear echoes from sounds that bounce of objects. But at the same time runs into things because there is too much going on. It is an animal that is aware of everything around but is sometimes overwhelm and cannot handle the since of pressure. The Picture look as if it is coming out of the back item all confused and evil and mad.

  13. What I see is a bat the looks like it was caught off guard by an ink blob that was thrown at him. I don't think bats are harmful creatures. I think they are scared of us as much as we are scared of them.

  14. When I was a little girl living in Fort Plok Louisiana, my cat brought home an injured bat, as my cat was of the disposition to hunt only stray leaves and leave living creatures to their own devices, and the only injury on the bat was an injured wing where as my cat bore quite a few scratches, we assume he found the poor creature already injured and brought it to us for care. For three weeks we cared for the creature feeding it both old banannas and crickets since it seemed to eat both and didn't express a preferance. After it's wing was mended we opened the cage and the doors in the house and out he flew, never to be seen again.

  15. Devils in the night that live blindly by day. Bats are somtimes feared but that's only because they go misunderstood. Flying aimlessy in the day but flying with purpose in the night.

  16. A companion in the night trying to survive at the mercy of others.

  17. To me, there are a lot of bats in this picture, but the black one it's the only one that represents a real menace because it's closer than the others. There is also like a whirlwind on the background which makes me think that the bats are about to go into it and never come back. The poem on the other hand made me think about the bats as dark temptations that can consume people and take them to lose everything.

  18. In this image i see a black bat being attacked by something very strong. Something that has been attacking animals and it seems like the poem is describing the bat evil which i believe is contrary. i agree he is a guardian of the night that's the time they come out but they are misunderstood by many.

  19. This image shows a bat that is about to fly right into a trap that is so big, how could you not see. I would connect this with every day life, where we are all trapped into traps that are so obvious. At times we do not realize how easier it was just to avoid that route until we are trapped and we cannot get out. Todays world is moving so fast that we cannot take the time to think before reacting. It is ok to take your time. We are only rushing to death, trust that is what we will all see after a certain time of life. Take it slow you wil get there one way or another.

  20. I see a poor bat trying to defend it self in midst of flight. There are others behind him following him, the leader. So many people mistake the bat as an evil creature as in the poem, but they are just doing their best to survive. This bat seems like he is surviving the predator, he is a dark knight.
